People now can access information about parks and golf courses in Topeka and Shawnee County at one place -- unwind.topeka.net.
The new Web site, created by Topeka.net, allows browsers to discover parks and other green spaces they may not have known about, said Barbara Hollingsworth, manager of product portfolio development for Topeka.net.
"Sometimes you don't realize what is in your own backyard," Hollingsworth said about the new site. "We hope people will use this as a resource to get out, get active and discover all of the thing they didn't know Topeka had. As a parent, I think it's cool because you can find all of the parks in town."
The site has 103 park listings. Each listing is complete with photographs, the amenities available and a description of the park.
"We have extended features on some of the more impressive amenities the parks have," Hollingsworth said. "You can also get the latest listing of events that are going on at the parks. That should be a big asset for people."
Unwind offers information for golfers, too -- everything from green fees to what type of grass is used.
Different people, such as Bill Riphahn, Parks and Recreation of Topeka director of planning and development, will share their thoughts through blogs on the site, too.
Topeka.net's parent company, Morris Communications, also owns The Topeka Capital-Journal and CJOnline.com.
Members of Topeka.net's staff are seeking feedback on the new site. There is a feedback form on the site, Hollingsworth said.
"I hope it will be a good resource for people planning their weekend or looking for a place they haven't been before," she said. "I think some people will go on and discover things they didn't know about. It's also a great resource for people who are new to the community. This will be the best place for them to find out about what the city and county have to offer."
